Result

Enter your eye height and TV size to calculate the mount height.

How to use it

  1. Enter the TV size in inches.
  2. Set your seated eye height, measured from the floor.
  3. Read how high the centre of the screen and its bottom edge should be.

What it works out and how

The rule is that the centre of the screen should sit at the eye level of a seated viewer. To place the bottom edge, the tool estimates the screen height from the diagonal: on a 16:9 panel, the height is roughly the diagonal in centimetres times 0.49. Half of that value is subtracted from the eye height.

Frequently asked questions

What is a typical seated eye height?

On a standard sofa it is usually 100 to 110 cm from the floor. The best approach is to measure it on your own sofa.

Can I mount it above the fireplace?

You can, but it almost always ends up too high and makes you tilt your head back. A tilting mount reduces the problem.

What about a bedroom, watching lying down?

There it makes sense to mount it higher and tilt it down, because your line of sight rises when you recline.
