How to use it

  1. Choose the room: living room, dining room or bedroom.
  2. Enter the size of the reference piece: the sofa, the table or the bed.
  3. Read the recommended size and the nearest standard size.

What it works out and how

In the living room, the rug should extend past the sofa: its width plus 50–60 cm, with a depth of 200 to 300 cm. In the dining room, 140 cm is added to each table dimension, 70 cm per side, so chairs stay on the rug when pulled out. In the bedroom, 45 to 60 cm is added on each side of the bed. The result is matched to retail sizes, from 160 × 230 to 240 × 340 cm.

Frequently asked questions

Should the sofa legs sit on the rug?

At least the front ones. A rug that touches no furniture tends to look small and adrift.

Why 70 cm per side in the dining room?

That is how far a chair travels when pulled out to sit down. With less, the back legs drop off and the chair wobbles.

How much floor should show around it?

Between 20 and 45 cm to the wall usually frames it well. In small rooms it can be less.
