A Moodle gradebook dashboard that never uploads a thing
Moodle exports grades as flat tables (CSV, Excel or XML) that are hard to make sense of at a glance. Moodle Gradebook Interpreter turns that export into a visual dashboard - executive summary, KPIs, a grade-distribution chart and a list of at-risk students - in about 20 seconds, no formulas or pivot tables required.
Unlike most educational data analysis tools, all processing happens in your own browser: the grade file is never uploaded to a server. That makes it a good fit for schools with strict student data protection requirements.

Does my students' grade data get uploaded to a server?
No. All the analysis happens in your browser via JavaScript - the file you upload never leaves your computer or passes through RA Software Apps' servers. You can verify this by disconnecting from the internet after the page loads: the tool keeps working.
Which Moodle export formats are supported?
It supports the standard Moodle gradebook export formats: CSV, Excel (.xlsx, .xls), OpenDocument (.ods) and XML. Export your grades from Moodle in any of these formats and upload the file directly.
Is it free? Is there a usage limit?
Yes, it's completely free with no daily usage limit and no limit on the number of files.
How to use it
- In Moodle, go to Grades, choose Export and download the file as CSV, Excel or XML.
- Upload that file to the tool.
- Review the summary, the indicators, the grade distribution and the list of students who need review; you can export the report.
What it works out and how
From the gradebook export it works out the average grade, the median, the highest and lowest grade, the variability and how many students pass and fail, and it draws the grade distribution. It also flags at-risk students so follow-up can start with them. Everything is processed in the browser: grades are not sent to any server.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to use with real student data?
The file never leaves your browser, so no data is shared with third parties. Even so, follow your institution's data protection policy when downloading and storing the export.
Which export format should I use?
Any of the three works. CSV is the lightest and the least troublesome with older Moodle versions.
Why look at the median if I already have the average?
The average is skewed by a few very low or very high grades. The median tells you the grade of the student right in the middle of the group.
