How to use it

Enter the length and width of the surface to be tiled.
Set the tile dimensions and the waste percentage.
If you know the square metres in each box, add it to get the number of boxes as well.

What it works out and how

The area is increased by the waste percentage (10% by default) and divided by the area of one tile (30 × 30 cm by default), always rounding up. Waste covers edge cuts, tiles that break and a few spares. The calculation does not subtract the width of the grout lines, which leaves a small extra margin in your favour.

Frequently asked questions

What waste figure should I use?

10% works for a straight layout in a simple room. For diagonal or herringbone layouts, or many cut-outs, go up to 15%.

Why buy everything at once?

Tiles from different batches can vary slightly in shade and size. Buying the full amount from one batch avoids visible differences.

Does it work for walls?

Yes. Enter the wall width and height and subtract large openings, such as a window or a door, by hand.
