Tire Pressure by Load Calculator
Free toolEnter the base pressure, the additional weight (luggage, passengers, or a trailer), and the vehicle's empty weight to calculate the adjusted pressure.
Ballpark figure, not officialAlways check your manufacturer's manual and the driver's door placard for the official pressure for your tires.
Adjusted pressure
Ballpark figure, not officialAlways check your manufacturer's manual and the driver's door placard for the official pressure for your tires.
How to use it
- Enter the base pressure recommended by the manufacturer.
- Set the car's empty weight and the extra load you will carry.
- Read the adjusted pressure in psi and bar.
What it works out and how
Adjusted pressure is the base multiplied by one plus half the ratio of extra load to empty weight. The result is rounded up in steps of 0.5 psi or 0.1 bar. With a 2.3 bar base, a 1,300 kg car and 260 kg of load, it comes to about 2.6 bar. It is an estimate: the valid reference is always the manufacturer's placard.
Frequently asked questions
Where is the recommended pressure?
On a sticker on the driver's door frame, inside the fuel flap or in the manual. It usually gives one value for normal load and another for full load.
When should pressure be measured?
With cold tyres, before driving or after less than 3 km. When warm the reading rises and is no use as a reference.
Can I exceed the maximum printed on the tyre?
Never. The sidewall maximum pressure and the load index are safety limits, whatever weight you carry.
