How to use it
- Enter the amount of the shared expense, such as rent or bills.

- Read the percentage and amount that falls to each one.
What it works out and how
Each person's share is their income divided by the sum of everyone's income, and that percentage is applied to the expense. If one person earns 2,000 and the other 1,000, the first contributes two thirds and the second one third: of a rent of 900, that is 600 and 300. Both end up spending the same proportion of their pay.
Frequently asked questions
Gross or net income?
Net, what really lands in the account each month. That is what reflects each person's actual ability to pay.
Is it fairer than splitting in half?
It depends on what you agree. Half and half is equal; proportional is equitable, because nobody is left with no margin for paying the same as someone earning twice as much.
Which expenses should be split this way?
Shared, fixed ones: rent or mortgage, utilities, food. Personal spending is usually left out.
