What it works out and how
The tool looks up a table of equivalents by gender between letter sizes and the European, British, US, Italian and French systems. For example, a women's M corresponds to EU 38, UK 10, US 6, IT 42 and FR 38; a men's M to EU 48 and UK or US 38. These are standard matches; actual cut varies from brand to brand.

Why is the Italian size a higher number?
The Italian scale runs about four points above the European one used in Spain: a Spanish 38 is an Italian 42.
Why does the same size fit differently in two shops?
There is no mandatory standard. Each brand tunes its measurements to its typical customer, and some enlarge the pattern while keeping the label.
Which measurements should I take?
Chest, waist and hips with a tape measure, without pulling tight. With those three figures, each brand's size chart is more reliable than any conversion.
