Recommended storage unit size
How to use it
- Set how many boxes, sofas, beds, wardrobes, appliances, tables with chairs and bikes you will store.
- Add in cubic metres any other item not on the list.
- Read the total volume and the indicative storage unit size.
What it works out and how
Each item type has an average volume assigned: 0.1 m³ per box, 1.5 per sofa, 2 per bed, 1.8 per wardrobe, 1 per appliance, 1.2 per table with chairs and 0.5 per bike. The tool adds everything up and suggests a unit with enough capacity. Bear in mind that units are advertised in square metres of floor; usable volume depends on height and how well you stack.
Frequently asked questions
How do I go from cubic metres to square metres?
Divide the volume by the height you will really stack to, which is usually about 2 metres even if the ceiling is higher.
Should I leave an aisle?
If you will go in to fetch things, yes: keep a central aisle and put what you will not need at the back.
Does flat-packed furniture take less room?
Much less. A dismantled bed or wardrobe can shrink to a quarter of its volume.
