How to use it

Tick the directives you need: index or noindex, follow or nofollow, and the optional ones.
If you use max-snippet or max-image-preview, set the value.

What it works out and how

The tool builds the content attribute of the meta robots tag from the boxes you tick. It covers the indexing and link-following directives, those that restrict the cached copy and the snippet, noimageindex, and the max-snippet and max-image-preview limits that control how much text and image a search engine may show in its results.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to write index, follow?

No. That is the default behavior when there is no tag. Only restrictions really need to be declared.

Can I combine noindex with a robots.txt block?

It is not a good idea. If robots.txt prevents crawling the page, the search engine never gets to read the noindex and the URL may stay indexed.

How is it different from X-Robots-Tag?

It is the same directive sent as an HTTP header. It is useful for files that have no head, such as a PDF or an image.
