How to use it

  1. Paste your sitemap.xml or upload the file. If it is an index, upload the sitemaps it points to as well.
  2. Review the total URL count and how it splits by path depth and by section.
  3. Check the warnings: duplicate URLs and missing metadata such as lastmod.

What it works out and how

The tool parses the XML and groups URLs by their first path segment and by number of segments, with a chart of the distribution. It lets you see at a glance which sections weigh the most, spot duplicates and check whether the sitemap carries modification dates. None of the listed URLs is requested over the network.

Frequently asked questions

Do changefreq and priority matter?

Very little. Google has said it ignores both fields. The one it may use is lastmod, as long as it reflects real content changes.

What is the depth of a URL?

The number of segments in its path. A page many levels deep usually gets fewer internal links and is crawled less often.

Can it open a sitemap index?

Yes, if you also upload the files it references: the tool does not download them on its own.
